After considering a few other local estate agents, some of whom tempted us with valuations well above what we knew our house was worth, we made the decision to go with Steven Oates. Steve Hibbert the sales director came out for a valuation and told us that despite the great location and lovely landscaped gardens that the house itself was a bit unusual. He spent a long time showing us comparable properties within a 25 mile radius so we could agree on a price that wouldn't need to be drastically reduced if it had been pitched too high. We put the house on the market last autumn in very adverse conditions. There were few viewings and most of the prospective buyers were focussed on making alterations. However Sam Dennison, the keen young sales executive charged with managing our viewings told us not to give up hope. He kept repeating that there was nothing wrong with the property or the pricing, it was simply that government policy had damaged confidence in the housing market. He was right. Finally in the spring we had a cascade of viewings and by March had three offers on the table very close to the asking price. Since we're now living in a house very close to the one we sold it was wonderful to be able to choose which family should have it. We'd been living in the house for 21 years, raised our children there and it therefore held many wonderful memories for us. Sam and Steve helped us choose the strongest candidate who luckily turned out to be the nicest couple. Throughout the whole process Sam and Steve were backed up by the friendly and easy to reach team in the Hertford office. Though there are a lot of estate agents in the Hertford area, for us and for friends we have encouraged to use the company, Steven Oates is by far the best.
